About:-

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional T20 Cricket league in India contested during March or April and May of every year but due to Covid-19 or Coronavirus it is starting from 19th of September this year. In IPL there are Eight teams representing Eight cities of India. This League was founded by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008.



The IPL is the most-attended cricket league in the world and in 2014 ranked sixth by average attendance among all sports league. In 2010, the IPL become the first sporting event in the world to be Broadcast live on YouTube. The brand value of IPL in 2019 was ₹475 billion (US $6.7 billion), according to Duff & Phelps (it is a multinational financial consultancy film based in New York city). According to BCCI, the 2015 IPL Season contributed ₹11.5 billion (US $160 million) to the GDP of Indian economy.

There have been twelve seasons of the IPL tournament. The current IPL title holders are the Mumbai Indians, who won the 2019 season.

Background:-

The Indian Cricket League (ICL) was founded in 2007, with funding provided by Zee Entertainment Enterprises. The ICL was not recognized by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) or International Cricket Council (ICC) and the BCCI were not pleased with its committee members joining the ICL, the BCCI increased the prize money in their own domestic tournaments and also imposed lifetime bans on players joining the ICL, which was considered a rebel league by the board.



Prize Money:-

The 2019 season of the IPL offered a total prize money of  ₹500 million (US $7.0 million), with the winning team netting  ₹200 million (US $2.8 million). The first and second runner-up received ₹125 million (US $1.8 million) and ₹87.5 million (US $1.2 million), respectively, with the fourth placed team also winning ₹87.5 million (US $1.2 million). The other teams are not awarded any prize money. The IPL rules mandate that half of the prize money must be distributed among the players.

1). Chennai Super Kings:-


The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are a franchise cricket team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was found in 2008. The team served a two year suspension from the IPL starting July 2015 for the alleged involvement of other owner in 2013 IPL betting cases, and won the title in its comeback season. The team is captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Coached by Stephen Fleming. The Super Kings have lifted the IPL title thrice (in 2010, 2011 and 2018), and has the highest win percentage among all teams in the IPL (61.28). They hold the records of most appearances in the playoffs (ten) and the Final (eight) of the IPL. They are the only IPL team to qualify for the playoff stage in each edition of their appearance in the league. In addition, they have also won the Champions League Twenty20 in 2010 and 2014. The brand value of the Super Kings in 2019 is estimated to be around ₹732 crore (roughly $104 million), making them the second-most valuable IPL franchise, after Mumbai Indians.



2). Delhi Capitals:-



The Delhi Capitals (DC) are a franchise cricket team that represent the city of Delhi. It was founded in 2008 as the Delhi Daredevils, the franchise is jointly owned by the GMR group and JSW group. The teams home ground is Arun Jaitley Stadium, located in New Delhi. The team is captained by Shreyas Iyer and coached by Ricky Ponting. The Delhi Capitals are the only current team to have never appeared in an IPL final and qualified for the IPL Playoffs  in 2019 for the first time in seven years.



3). Kings XI Punjab:-



The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are a franchise cricket team based in Mohali (Chandigarh), Punjab. It was established in 2008, the franchise is jointly owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul. The team is captained by K.L.Rahul and coached by Anil Kumble. Apart from the 2014 season when they topped the league table and finished runners-up, the team has made only one other playoff appearance in 12 seasons.



4). Kolkata Knight Riders:-



The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are a franchise cricket team representing the city of Kolkata. The franchise is owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her spouse Jay Mehta. The team is captained by Dinesh Karthik and coached by Brendon McCullum. The franchise, which has gained immense popularity due to its association with celebrity owners, qualified for the IPL playoffs for the first time in 2011. They became the IPL champions in 2012, by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final. They repeated the feat in 2014, defeating Kings XI Punjab. The Knight Riders hold the record for the longest winning streak by any Indian team in T20s (14).



5). Mumbai Indians:-



The Mumbai Indians is a franchise cricket team based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was founded in 2008. The team is owned by India's biggest Conglomerate, Reliance Industries, through its 100% Subsidiary IndiaWin Sports. The team is captained by Rohit Sharma and coached by Mahela Jayewardene. Mumbai Indians is the most successful team in the IPL. They won the 2011 Champions League Twenty20 after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 31 runs in the final. The team won the double by winning its first IPL title, in 2013, by defeating Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs in the final, and then defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs to win its second Champions League Twenty20 title later that year. They won their second IPL title on 24 May 2015 by defeating the Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs in the final and became the third team to win more than one IPL title. On 21 May 2017, they won their third IPL title by defeating the Rising Pune Supergiant by 1 run in a thrilling final, thus becoming the first team to win three IPL titles. While playing the tournament, they won their 100th T20, becoming the first team to do so. In 2019, they repeated the same feat as they won a record breaking fourth IPL title, by beating CSK by just 1 run on 12 May 2019 in IPL Final.


6). Rajasthan Royals:-



Rajasthan Royals (RR) are a franchise cricket team based in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It was founded in 2008 as one of the initial eight IPL franchises. The team is owned by Amisha Hathi Ramani, Manoj Badale, Lachlan Murdoch, Ryan Tkalcevic and Shane Warne. The team is captained by Steve Smith and coached by Andrew McDonald. 
The team won the inaugural edition of the IPL under the captaincy of Shane Warne, despite being written off as a title contender by the media and fans. The Royals were also the runners-up of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 under  Rahul Dravid's captaincy.



7). Royal Challengers Bangalore:-



The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are a franchise Cricket team based in Bangalore, Karnataka. It was founded in 2008 by United Spirits and named after the company's Liquor brand Royal Challenge. The team is Captained by Virat Kohli and coached by Simon Matthew Katich. 
The Royal Challengers have never won the IPL but finished runners-up on three occasions between 2009 and 2016. Their lack of success over the years despite the presence of various notable players has earned them the tag of "Underachievers." The team holds the records of both the highest and the lowest totals in the IPL – 263/5 and 49 respectively.



8). Sunrisers Hyderabad:-



The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are a franchise cricket team based in Hyderabad, Telangana. It was founded in 2012 after the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers were terminated by the the IPL. The franchise is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the Sun TV Network. The team is captained by David Warner and coached by Trevor Bayliss. 
The team made their first IPL appearance in 2013, where they reached the playoffs, eventually finishing in fourth place. The SunRisers won their maiden IPL title in the 2016 season, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 8 runs in the final. The team has qualified for the play-off stage of the tournament in every season since 2016. In 2018, the team reached the finals of the Indian Premier League, but lost to Chennai Supers Kings by 8 Wickets.



Former teams...

1). Deccan Chargers:-



The Deccan Chargers (DC) were a franchise cricket team based in the city of Hyderabad. The team was one of the eight founding members of the IPL in 2008 and was owned by Deccan Chronicle Highlights Ltd. The owner put the franchise up for sale in 2012 due to constant banning of team players in previous seasons but declined the sale bid. On 4 September 2012, the team was permanently banned by IPL governing council, terminated the chargers for breaching contract terms. 
After finishing last in the first season of the IPL, they won the second season held in South Africa in 2009 under the captaincy of former Australian wicket-keeper and batsman Adam Gilchrist.


2). Kochi Tuskers Kerala:-



The Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) was a franchise cricket team representing the city of Kochi, Kerala. The team was one of two new franchises added to the IPL for the 2011 Season, alongside Pune Warriors India. The team franchise was owned by Kochi cricket Pvt Ltd. In October 2010, the BCCI announced that it would decide the fate of the Kochi team. The IPL governing council gave the team a 30-day termination notice with the chance to resolve the issues and by December the ownership structure of the franchise was resolved.



3). Pune Warriors India:-



The Pune Warriors India (PWI) were a franchise cricket team that represented the city of pune. The team was owned by Sahara Groups Sports Ltd. In May 2013, Pune Warriors India withdrew from the IPL over financial differences with the BCCI. 
The team was unsuccessful in their three years in the tournament, finishing second from last in their inaugural season and in their final season and last in 2012. Overall, the team played 46 matches, winning 12 and losing 33 with one match a no-result due to rain.



4). Rising Pune Supergiant:-



The Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) was a franchise cricket team based in Pune, Maharashtra. It was the second team representing Pune after Pune Warriors India. The team along with Gujarat Lions featured as two-season replacement for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who were suspended due to their involvement in illegal betting by their respective owners. The franchise was owned by RP-SanjivGoenka Group controlled by Sanjiv Goenka. 
The team lost the 2017 IPL final to Mumbai Indians by 1 run, which was the team's last game in the IPL.



5). Gujarat Lions:-



The Gujarat Lions (GL) were a franchise cricket team based in the city of Rajkot, Gujarat. The team played in the IPL for 2 years (2016 and 2017) as one of the replacement for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who were both suspended for two seasons due to illegal betting by there respective owners. The franchise was owned by Intex Technologies.
